Aspiring American driver Mitchell DeJong will join nine other RX Lites entrants at Lydden Hill for AUTOSPORT World RX Great Britain – round two of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy – as the 16-year-old prepares for his first ever race on European soil.
As a single-spec formula, RX Lites drivers compete in identical 310bhp, all-wheel-drive, rear-engined machinery, prioritising driver skill and close, wheel-to-wheel racing while keeping costs strictly to a minimum. Lydden Hill will form round two of the supporting RX Lites Cup.
Young, but experienced, DeJong has raced competitively from the age of five and is a proven winner on pavement and dirt, competing in off-road modified trucks, Legend cars, and now rallycross. The Red Bull driver has been winning championships since the age of nine.
“What an awesome opportunity it is to be racing with the Olsbergs OMSE team,” explained DeJong. whose hometown is Laguna Hills in California.
“The fact that my first European race will be at the iconic track, Lydden Hill, where rallycross originated makes it even more exciting. I’ve always raced both road racing and off-road so what I love about rallycross is that it combines the best of both worlds. I’m really looking forward to the high level of competition at Lydden.”
Sebastien Erikksen is the current RX Lites Cup leader after winning round one in Portugal earlier this month, but the Swede has elected to skip the British round. Multiple STCC Champion Richard Goransson is second, and will be hoping for a strong result at Lydden to move to the top of the leaderboard.
