The FIA World Rallycross Championship will visit Barcelona for the first time this September for round ten of the championship, and the layout of the brand new rallycross circuit at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been revealed.

Held in the amphitheatre stadium section of the popular Formula One and MotoGP venue, the Barcelona RX circuit is 1100 meters long, runs anti-clockwise and features nine corners.

The start of the rallycross circuit is at the F1 circuit’s final corner, facing the opposite direction, into the stadium. The first two corners are very fast on tarmac, before the 90 degree turn three takes drivers from tarmac to loose. Turn four is a left-hander on the first loose section of the new track, before turn five takes the track back onto tarmac. A short straight on tarmac between turns five and six will give the World RX drivers a split second to breath, before heading back onto loose for turns seven and eight, back in front of the main stadium grandstand where there will also be a jump. The last corner, turn nine, is a tight 180 degree right-hander on tarmac, with the joker lap running around the outside of the final corner before a dash to the finish line.

Supported by The Royal Automobil Club of Catalunya (RACC) and Barcelona City Council, the organisers of Barcelona RX, Seven Marketing and Mila Events, have already begun on the new RX circuit ready for the event in September.

Jordi Roquer commented: “We’ve worked really hard on the design together with the FIA, IMG, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and us to create a fantastic and spectacular track. We’ve now finished the construction of the first phase and everything is going well. At the beginning of August the track will be completed.”
