17-year-old Kenyan Tejas Hirani, just signed a long term contract with Olsbergs MSE covering a full season with RX Lites. It is announced today at a press conference with the participation of Olsbergs MSE boss Andreas Eriksson and Tejas’ trainer Rob Collinge in Nairobi, Kenya.
Tejas first tried his skills on a SuperCar Lites about a year ago on a test day in IstanbulPark, Turkey, the day organised by First Corner Ltd for newcomers to the sport. As soon as he found a support to have a seat, he placed himself at the start grid back in BarcelonaRX last year. With this 3 races contract with Istanbul based team Toksport WRT, Tejas managed to get the experience to drive and be competitive. He raced at Spain,Turkey and Italy under Toksport’s tent and he proved to be faster on each Heat. Now he will be the first ever Kenyan and yet an African to follow full Rallycross Championship in WorldRX.
First transfer of the year is finally announced today that Tejas is now an OMSE driver for RXLites Championship:
“I am humbled and excited at the prospect of taking part in the upcoming championship as the first and only African,” explained Hirani, who won the 2015 Formula Gulf 1000 Championship in the UAE. “This is a dream come true for me and I would like to thank all my sponsors, Olsbergs MSE, my trainers and everyone who believed in me throughout my journey. My goal is to win.”
Andreas Eriksson is also happy with the new deal : “Tejas has shown great skill and talent in the events he has raced in so far in his young career. With OMSE´s professional help to further develop him as a race driver and grow him as a person, he has the chance to become a future rallycross star.”
Rob Collinge, who has been managing and training Hirani since 2010, concluded: “Tejas will be staying with the Olsbergs team in Sweden for two months to prepare him for the RX Lites. The RX on Ice series which he starts in January is designed to hone his skills and control on ice under the guidance of professional tutors in the Olsbergs MSE team.”
